Overview
A prestigious private estate near Ramatuelle, in St Tropez, is seeking a professional, experienced, and technically proficient Head Gardener to join its dedicated household team.
This is a hands-on, specialist role requiring in-depth horticultural knowledge, particularly in plant biology, tree care, and soil management. The successful candidate will focus on the ongoing care, preservation, and technical maintenance of the estate’s established gardens, ensuring they remain healthy, thriving, and impeccably maintained throughout the seasons. This is not a landscaping or design position, but rather a role suited to someone with a strong foundation in horticulture and a passion for excellence in private estate gardening.
Please note, this is a Live-in position. Comfortable on-site shared accommodation is provided for the successful candidate, along with a competitive salary and the opportunity to work in a highly respected, private environment on the Côte d’Azur.
Job duties
Responsibilities of the Head Gardener near Ramatuelle, St Tropez include:
- Prepare soil and manage earthworks, fertilisation, and weeding
- Plant, protect, and maintain a wide variety of plants and trees
- Carry out regular watering, planting, pruning, trimming, and tree felling
- Maintain garden areas, including ponds and water features
- Perform minor masonry tasks (e.g., kerbing, paving)
- Ensure safe use and storage of tools, machinery, and chemicals
- Conduct basic maintenance of gardening equipment
- Organise green waste and recycling
- Monitor plant health, identifying pests or diseases and coordinating treatment
Candidates must be/have:
- BEP/CAP or equivalent qualification in horticulture, landscaping, or botany (or strong demonstrable experience)
- Valid Certiphyto (certificat individuel produits phytopharmaceutiques)
- Strong technical expertise in horticulture, soil, and plant care
- Physically fit and able to perform hands-on gardening daily
- Prior experience in luxury estates or private households preferred
- Self-motivated, discreet, and highly reliable
- Environmentally aware; knowledge of organic/sustainable gardening is an advantage
- Respectful toward animals and the natural surroundings
- Fluent English essential; French is a plus

Shared onsite accommodation provided.
Location
Near Ramatuelle, St Tropez, French Riviera.
Hours
Full-time, Monday – Friday.
Salary
€4,000 net per month.
