Maternity Nurse
Overview
A relaxed family is seeking an experienced Maternity Nurse to support them for three months following the arrival of their first baby.
They are looking for a calm, gentle and unhurried professional who can integrate seamlessly into their informal household. The mother will be following traditional Chinese postpartum confinement (zuo yue zi), a 30 – 42 day practice focussed on restoring her health through warmth, rest, and diet.
The position will begin in North London before relocating with the family to their second home near Chagford in Devon. The family employs a Gardener and Cleaner at both properties. Start date: 1st June 2026.
Job duties
Responsibilities of the Maternity Nurse in London/Devon include:
- Providing attentive postnatal and newborn care
- Supporting feeding routines and infant development
- Establishing gentle, age-appropriate routines
- Assist with adherence to traditional practices, such as avoiding heavy lifting
- Offering guidance and reassurance to the mother; particularly when the father is working away
- Working collaboratively within a calm and informal household
- Light nursery duties, such as tidying the baby’s area, and organising clothing and supplies
- Prepare warm, nutritious, and easily digestible meals that support the mother’s recovery
- Supporting the mother during post-partum appointments in London
Candidates must be / have:
- Strong experience as a Maternity Nurse or Postnatal Nanny
- Calm, nurturing and emotionally intelligent approach
- Comfortable working in a slow-paced, informal environment
- Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to relocate between properties
- A driver (preferred) due to the rural Devon location
Accommodation
North London | A bedroom shared with the baby will be provided.
Devon | A bedroom shared with the baby or separate cottage near the main house.
Hours
Full-time. 24/7 for the first 4 weeks then 24/6 – flexibility required.
Location
Angel, North London | First six weeks.
Near Chagford, Devon | Thereafter.
Salary
Competitive and depending on experience.
