The family is seeking a highly skilled, passionate, and motivated team-playing individual to take responsibility of the management of their gardens at their premises in Windsor and in Central London.

The Senior Gardener will play a key role in setting and contributing to a happy and cohesive culture, working closely alongside other team members and the Family.

This position would suit a proactive and creative horticulturalist who has demonstrable experience of working within a private estate. The gardens are organically managed with a strong emphasis on sustainability and knowledge in this area is essential.  Expertise in formal and informal garden maintenance and a comprehensive knowledge of different plant species and their care is fundamental.

Working under the direction of the Principal and Team Manager, and as part of a larger multi-disciplinary team, you will be primarily responsible for overseeing the development, care and maintenance of the gardens and grounds of a country property within Windsor Great Park, as well as overseeing the care of three urban gardens in central London.  You will line-manage a part-time groundsman and other part-time labour are required throughout the season.

The successful candidate will play an active role in managing new planting projects, liaising with specialist contractors, garden designers and the wider estate team. Job duties:

  • Routine maintenance of the Estate grounds
  • Lawn and Wild Meadow maintenance
  • Tree maintenance around the Estate
  • Greenhouse management and maintenance
  • Wild Pond maintenance
  • Administration tasks and garden planning
  • Overseeing contractors when on site
  • Plant research and procurement
  • Seed collection and propagation
  • Maintaining herbaceous and mixed borders throughout the Property
  • Vegetable cultivation and harvesting
  • Cut-flower production and preparation
  • Seed collection and propagation
  • Seasonal bulb and pot planting
  • Potager vegetable cultivation and harvesting
  • Pruning fruit trees
  • General garden maintenance/tidying
  • Weeding and mulching
  • Managing a composting system

Candidate must be/have:

  • 3-5 years’ experience
  • Comprehensive plant knowledge and proven practical skills
  • RHS Level 2 or above qualification

Hours

Monday to Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm.

Some Saturdays and Bank Holidays required during busy periods.

£40,000 – £45,000
