Gardener
Overview
Our client, who owns a beautiful country estate, surrounded by rolling hills, woodland, meadows, pools, lakes, and farmland, is seeking an experienced Gardener to oversee and manage their gardens.
This includes the main 2-acre house garden and four 0.07-acre cottage gardens, each with its unique charm and character.
Job duties
Responsibilities of the Gardener in Herefordshire include:
- Maintain the estate’s gardens, lawns, and outdoor areas to ensure they are well-groomed, healthy, and visually appealing
- Planting, pruning, and landscaping duties to enhance the aesthetic beauty of the grounds
- Regular maintenance of garden equipment, tools, and machinery to ensure they are in good working condition
- Weed control and pest management, with a focus on minimising pesticide usage
- Seasonal tasks, such as leaf raking and winter preparation
- Collaboration with the estate manager or other staff members to plan and execute special projects or events involving outdoor spaces
- Working closely with the Principal to bring their vision for the garden to life
Candidates must have:
- Previous experience in gardening, landscaping, or horticulture, preferably in a similar private estate setting
- A solid understanding of plant care, soil management, and landscaping and horticultural practices
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining garden equipment and machinery
- Physical stamina and strength to perform outdoor tasks in various weather conditions
- Attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics, with a passion for transforming gardens
- Initiative and problem-solving skills to address landscaping challenges and maintain the integrity of the estate’s outdoor spaces
- Willingness to work collaboratively with other estate staff members and follow instructions from the estate manager or employer
- Must have a clean, valid driving licence

£30,000 – £35,000, depending on experience.
