2026 Salary Guide: What UHNW Households Really Pay

2026 Salary Guide: What UHNW Households Really Pay

UK, Europe & Middle East – market-tested salary ranges for private household staff in London, Monaco, France, Switzerland, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Qatar.

Private household staffing has become a genuinely global market. A Principal with homes in London, Monaco and Dubai is now competing against every other UHNW household hiring for the same skill set, anywhere in the world.

At Cora, we place and advise on senior household staff across all of these markets, from London and Monaco to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which puts us in a good position to see where salaries are actually landing, rather than where they’re assumed to be.

That makes transparent, accurate salary benchmarking useful, both for households setting budgets and for candidates weighing up offers.

This guide is for UHNW principals, family offices, and senior candidates operating in the London, Monaco, Swiss and Middle East markets. Where we refer to a “UHNW household” here, we mean one with assets typically above $30 million, often spanning multiple residences, and with correspondingly high service expectations.

The global luxury household staffing market has been valued at roughly $1.8 billion in 2025, on track for continued growth through the next decade, while the global population of UHNW individuals has grown by more than 160,000 people in the past five years – adding the equivalent of around 89 new UHNW households a day. Therefore the more households at this level, more of them running multiple properties and more competition for the staff who can run them.

Demand for experienced household staff is rising fastest of all in Asia Pacific.

The market in 2026: demand, shortages and pay pressure

Demand for experienced household staff is rising fastest exactly where you’d expect, alongside the growth in UHNW wealth itself.

  • The global luxury household staffing market is forecast to nearly double in size over the next decade, growing at roughly 6.6% a year.
  • North America currently holds the largest share of that market, with Europe close behind. The Middle East is a smaller but fast-growing share, and Asia Pacific is growing fastest of all.
  • Housekeepers make up the single largest segment of the market, followed by Private Chefs, Nannies, Chauffeurs, Estate Managers and Butlers, in that order.
  • UHNW households specifically are the fastest-growing client segment, already accounting for over a third of market revenue.

The practical effect for hiring in 2026: experienced, specialist household staff (particularly at Estate Manager, Senior Chef and Senior Butler level) are in short supply relative to demand and pay reflects that scarcity.

Salary benchmarks by region and role

How to use this guide

The figures are market bands. Within any given range, where a candidate or job role sits depends on scope, complexity and the specific demands of the household.

As a rough guide: the lower end of a band reflects a single property position with a smaller team and more conventional responsibilities, the middle of a band is typical for an experienced professional in a well-resourced household with moderate complexity and the top end reflects multi-property responsibility, heavy travel, large domestic staffing teams, specialist skills or particularly high-profile/discretion-sensitive households.

Use the “what moves a candidate to the top of the band” section below to work out where a specific role or candidate should sit.

2026 Salary Guide: What UHNW Households Really Pay

Travel-heavy roles, such as Chefs, Butlers and Nannies who accompany the family, tend to sit at the top of their band, reflecting both the intensity of the work and the time away from home it demands.

What moves a candidate to the top of the band

Across every region, the same handful of factors consistently push pay to the top of a range:

  • Multi-property responsibility, particularly cross-border (UK/EU/Middle East)
  • Travel intensity – roles that accompany the principal internationally
  • Team leadership – managing five or more staff, complex rotas and external supplier relationships
  • Specialist skills – Michelin or formal-dining training for chefs, Norland training or governess-level qualifications, security aware service, wellness or nutrition expertise
  • Discretion and high-profile experience – VIP, celebrity, political or UHNW household backgrounds
  • Tech fluency – smart home systems, digital household management platforms, security technology

This maps closely onto where the market itself is concentrated: Estate Managers, Senior Chefs and Senior Butlers are among the most in demand and fastest growing categories globally, and UHNW households are the fastest-growing client segment overall.

Multi-property responsibility particularly cross border UK, EU and Middle East command high salaries in private staffing.

Live-in vs live-out, rota and travel premiums

Live-in roles typically show a lower base salary, but with accommodation and utilities covered, total compensation can still be highly competitive once that’s factored in. Rota positions, typically two weeks on and two weeks off, attract a premium and are standard for security roles and some senior management posts. Travel heavy roles, such as Chefs, Butlers and Nannies who accompany the family, tend to sit at the top of their band, reflecting both the intensity of the work and the time away from home it demands.

Adjacent markets and what they tell us

The household staffing market doesn’t sit in isolation. Adjacent markets – luxury lifestyle management (concierge, travel, event management), luxury butler services, and luxury home set up services are all growing at a similar or faster pace, and by broadly similar drivers: more UHNW households, more of them multi-residence and rising expectations for professionalised, discreet, high-touch service. Lifestyle management retainers for the most comprehensive mandates can run well into six figures annually.

Expect the same trend in salaries: more pressure upward, more specialised roles, and more demand for staff who can handle tech and security alongside the traditional skill set.

FAQs: UHNW Household Staff Pay

Live-in roles typically show a lower base salary, but with accommodation and utilities covered, total pay can be just as competitive. Rota positions (two weeks on/off) attract a premium and are standard for security and senior management roles.

Key factors include multi-property or cross-border responsibility, international travel with the principal, managing five or more staff, specialist skills like Michelin training, discretion in high profile households and tech or security fluency.

These roles are among the fastest growing and most in demand categories globally, whilst UHNW households, the fastest-growing client segment, increasingly need multi-property, travel-heavy coverage. That gap between demand and experienced supply is what is pushing pay up.
