Guardian Couple
Overview
On behalf of our new private client, we are seeking an experienced Live-in Guardian / Caretaker Couple to oversee the daily care, maintenance, and security of their private estate near Canaules-et-Argentieres.
This is a live-in role suited to a practical, proactive couple who enjoy rural living and working as part of a small, established team. Start date – May / June 2026.
The Property
- Private estate of approximately 1.5 hectares
- Landscaped gardens featuring bushes, flowers, Mediterranean plants, mature trees, a small orchard, fruit trees, and around 20 olive trees (maintained by specialist contractors)
- Approximately one-third of the land remains wild
- Two professional gardeners attend 1–2 times per week, depending on the season
Job duties
Responsibilities of the Live-in Guardian/Caretaker Couple near Canaules-et-Argentieres, include:
Property & Estate Care
- Daily oversight and upkeep of the gardens and grounds
- General maintenance and caretaking duties across the estate
- Coordinating with and supporting external contractors (gardeners, specialists, trades)
- Ensuring the property is secure, well-presented, and running smoothly
- Care of five cats, including feeding and administering medication when required
- Full responsibility for the animals when the housekeeper is on holiday
- Use of a service vehicle provided for work-related duties
- Driving to manage errands, supplies, and property-related tasks
- Working alongside one additional staff member who oversees the running of the property
- Communicating effectively and supporting the wider household team
Candidates must be/have:
- Proven experience as a Guardian / Caretaker Couple on a private estate
- EU passport / valid right to work in the EU
- Fluency in French and English
- Confident gardeners with hands-on experience in maintaining large outdoor spaces
- Comfortable with animal care, including administering medication
- Flexible, reliable, and self-motivated
- Preferably both candidates are drivers (at least one essential)
- Candidates should have their own car for personal use
Accommodation
A separate three bedroom, two bathroom house on the estate.
Hours
Full-time, varying on when the Principal is in/out of residence.
Location
Near Canaules-et-Argentieres, 30350, France.
Salary
€5,000 net per month (combined).
Competitive salary, dependent on experience
