Guardian / Caretaker Couple

Overview

Our client seeks an experienced, warm, and highly autonomous Caretaker Couple to oversee the year-round upkeep, security, and smooth running of an exceptional historic private Mas located between Nîmes and Montpellier in the heart of the Languedoc countryside.

The estate comprises a main house, guest house, and an independent 3-bedroom house for the couple, all set within beautifully maintained Mediterranean gardens, woodland, olive grove, and orchard. The property is a secondary residence, visited occasionally by the owners, with a long-standing full-time housekeeper already employed who works closely alongside the couple.

Job duties

Responsibilities of the Live-in Guardian/Caretaker couple include:

Interior & Household Management

  • Full care and presentation of the main and guest houses
  • Laundry, linen care, organisation, and household oversight
  • Guest house preparation ahead of arrivals
  • Coordination with the resident housekeeper
  • Occasional simple meal preparation when owners/guests are in residence
  • Kitchen management and occasional assistance with gardens/grounds

Grounds & Property Maintenance

  • Maintenance and presentation of 1.5 – 2 hectares of grounds
  • Garden care, watering, and orchard upkeep
  • Minor repairs and routine property maintenance
  • Supervision of external contractors and heavy gardening teams
  • General property security and monitoring

Candidates must be/have:

  • Proven experience as a Guardian / Caretaker Couple on a private estate
  • EU passport / valid right to work in France
  • Fluency in French; English or Spanish an advantage
  • Confident gardeners with hands-on experience in maintaining large outdoor spaces
  • Comfortable with animal care, including administering medication
  • Flexible, reliable, and self-motivated
  • Preferably both candidates are drivers (at least one essential)
  • Candidates should have their own car for personal use

Accommodation

Independent 3-bedroom house provided, all utilities included

Hours

Full-time, varying on when the Principal is in/out of residence.

Salary

€5,000 net per month combined (€2,500 net each), DOE.

Vehicle provided for work purposes

Permanent French contract.
