Live-in Governess
Overview
A warm, energetic and engaging Governess is required to join a Saudi based family and support two boys, aged 10 and 7. This full-time, live-in role combines academic support, enrichment, extracurricular activities and day-to-day organisation, with a focus on encouraging the boys’ independence, curiosity and good habits.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, fun and genuinely enjoy spending time with children, taking an active interest in their hobbies and participating in games and sports. Extensive international travel, particularly to Europe, is required.
The Governess will work alongside an established household team, including a long-standing nanny, to coordinate the boys’ schedules to ensure their days run smoothly.
Job duties
Responsibilities of the Live-in Governess include:
Academic Support
• Oversee and support the boys with their homework each day after school.
• Monitor academic progress across all subjects and identify areas where either child may require additional support.
• Research and source appropriate external academic support where a subject falls outside the Governess’s expertise, liaising with the parents as required.
• Potentially take on the responsibilities of the family’s current twice-weekly tutor, subject to the candidate’s academic capability.
Enrichment and Development
• Encourage and develop a genuine love of reading.
• Engage the boys in topics that interest them through research, discussion and shared exploration.
• Foster curiosity, proactive behaviour and independent thinking.
• Encourage good daily habits, including reading, organisation and self-management.
• Support the parents’ philosophy of raising independent children who do not rely on constant assistance.
Activities and Extracurriculars
• Coordinate and manage the boys’ extracurricular schedules and activities.
• Accompany them to activities including football, tennis and other interests.
• Be physically active and genuinely willing to participate in activities, games and sport rather than simply supervising from the sidelines.
• Help the children make the most of their activities and interests as these develop and change over time.
Organisation and Household Coordination
• Manage the boys’ daily and weekly schedules.
• Use school hours to plan activities, coordinate logistics and ensure the children’s schedules are organised.
• Plan suitable activities and enrichment opportunities.
• Ensure the children’s routines run smoothly, particularly when the parents are unavailable.
• Work closely with the family’s long-term nanny and coordinate shared responsibilities.
• Maintain clear organisation and oversight of the children’s commitments and routines.
Family and Social Life
• Accompany the family on outings and social occasions.
• Frequently accompany the family when spending time with grandparents and extended family.
• Maintain appropriate structure and oversight of the boys during family gatherings and social engagements.
Candidates must be /have:
- Native-level or near-native English proficiency, with strong academic ability and confidence supporting homework across a range of subjects.
- Previous Governess, Nanny/Governess or comparable private household childcare experience, with a genuine interest in children’s development, education and enrichment.
- Warm, energetic and engaging personality, with a genuine enjoyment of working with children and actively participating in games, sports and activities.
- Strong organisational and scheduling skills, with the ability to encourage independence while providing appropriate guidance and support.
- Flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to travel extensively and work collaboratively within an established household team.
- Discreet, professional and highly responsible, with excellent judgement.
Accommodation
Private bedroom and bathroom, with accommodation provided when travelling. Occasional room-sharing may be required.
Hours
Full-time, 12 hours per day / six days per week, with flexibility around school hours, family schedules and occasional earlier finishes on quieter days.
Location
Saudi Arabia, with regular international travel. Travel periods are typically up to a maximum of six weeks.
Salary & Package
Competitive, dependent on experience and academic capability.
