Travelling Governess

Overview

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an outstanding Travelling Governess to join an ambitious international family, supporting the care, education and development of two children, aged 8 and 6.

This is a role for an accomplished childcare professional who combines impeccable nannying standards with the mindset of an educator and mentor — intellectually curious, well organised and naturally proactive, with the confidence to create enriching opportunities beyond the classroom.

Education and global awareness matter enormously to this family. They’re looking for someone who can curate inspiring learning experiences and encourage curiosity through considered projects, travel and cultural opportunities.

Whilst based in the UK initially, the family anticipates relocating to Seattle for around a year from November 2026, before returning to the UK ahead of their eldest child’s transition to boarding school. Visa arrangements will be fully supported.

The role is working six days per week. There are two positions available.

Job duties

Responsibilities of the Travelling Governess in UK and US include:

  • Providing exceptional day-to-day care and guidance for two school-aged children.
  • Creating an engaging, stimulating and intellectually enriching environment that encourages curiosity, independence and confidence.
  • Planning educational projects, cultural experiences and inspiring outings that complement the children’s formal education.
  • Identifying exceptional opportunities for learning and personal development, whether through travel, specialist courses, workshops, cultural institutions or introductions to experts within relevant fields.
  • Supporting the children’s academic progress whilst nurturing creativity, critical thinking and emotional intelligence.
  • Encouraging language development and helping create meaningful opportunities for language immersion and practical use.
  • Building relationships with educational providers, tutors, specialists and organisations to enhance the children’s experiences.
  • Managing school schedules, extracurricular activities and educational planning.
  • Travelling extensively with the family, both domestically and internationally.
  • Working collaboratively with parents and household staff to ensure seamless organisation and consistency.

Candidates must be / have:

  • Extensive experience as a Governess or similar role within UHNW or internationally mobile households
  • Outstanding educational awareness and genuine passion for children’s intellectual and personal development
  • The ability to think creatively and proactively, continually sourcing inspiring experiences and opportunities tailored to each child’s interests and potential
  • Excellent understanding of child development across the primary years
  • Impeccable manners, discretion and presentation, with the highest professional standards
  • A calm, engaging and naturally confident approach
  • Strong organisational and logistical abilities, capable of managing complex schedules and international travel
  • Flexibility to relocate internationally and travel extensively as required
  • Fluency in English
  • Eligibility to travel internationally and obtain relevant visas

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level, ideally from a highly regarded or internationally recognised university
  • Fluency in an additional language, French or Latin particularly welcomed
  • A background in academically rigorous or intellectually enriching environments (e.g. tutoring, teaching, or governess roles within similarly distinguished households)
  • Experience supporting internationally mobile or UHNW families, with an understanding of the UK and US education system
  • A recognised qualification in education, early years, or Montessori pedagogy
  • First Aid / paediatric First Aid certification

Accommodation

A private ensuite bedroom will be provided whilst working; and a separate apartment when not on shift.

Location

Initially based in the UK, with anticipated relocation to Seattle for approximately a year before returning to the UK. Extensive international travel.

Hours

The role is working six days per week.

Salary

£150,000.
